Coca Cola marketing chief Marcelo Pontes said it was only a matter of time before Ronaldinho would be given the boot from the deal.
“The fact that the player has appeared with a can of Pepsi was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Coca Cola marketing chief Marcelo Pontes told O Estado de Sao Paulo. “The sponsorship had become embarrassing.”
After being absent for a few days, he sued Flamengo claiming lack of payment for four months and cancelled his contract with the club.
According to newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo, the 32-year-old was more interested in hosting crazy parties and often turned up late to training.
Ronaldinho then made a surprise move to Atlético Mineiro on 4 June 2012 in a six-month contract, just four days after leaving Flamengo.
